Father: I want you to marry a girl of my choice
Son: “I will choose my own bride!”
Father: “But the girl is Bill Gates’s daughter.”
Son: “Well, in that case…ok”

Next Day Father approaches Bill Gates.
Father: “I have a husband for your daughter.”
Bill Gates: “But my daughter is too young to marry!”
Father: “But this young man is a vice-president of the World Bank.”
Bill Gates: “Ah, in that case…ok”

Finally Father goes to see the president of the World Bank.
Father: “I have a young man to be recommended as a vice-president.”
President: “But I already have more vice- presidents than I need!”
Father: “But this young man is Bill Gates’s son-in-law.”
President: “Ah, in that case…ok”

This is how business is done!!

Mirages do matter!!

“So ,what’s the theme for today?”,asked the hotel official to the event manager.”Hmm we had aqua last week,so lets make it fire this week.What do you say,ma’m?”,he replies.”Whatever,as long as its appealing to our customers,its fine with us!!”.Well,now that’s what is called practicality isn’t it,smart woman,the hotel official.

The other day,at the grocery store,there was an interesting argument between a mom and a  10 year-old.The boy insisted that she pick Coke while mom was stretching out for Complan.The reason wasn’t that he didn’t like complan,it was that he was collecting the pokemon cards that came along with Coke.He had already 9 cards with him and 2 more would make him the ‘hero’ of the school.He had to show Lionel that he was no inferior.That’s all he cared for.Thank God,Mom’s firm and not mollycoddling.

Variety of situations,variety of choices available and ample scope for exploration.But,just one constraint-TIME.Everybody says the same thing–hectic schedules,heavy work,busy routine,tiring jobs,demanding tasks,etc etc.Everybody seems to be toiling hard and grilling their lives.Why?Well,we ought to survive,don’t we.And where are you,with inflation ‘happening’..things are getting worser and tougher by day.Ok,justified.But the interest,effort and time that goes into profession and earning is insufficient for your living.Crores of rupees,number of friends,brilliant employees,smart family…but what about you?Have you ever paid some attention to yourself?You might be intelligent,you might be talented,you might be socially active,you might be wealthy….but are you healthy??are you peaceful??are you serene??are you happy??Everytime i ask these questions to myself,i realize a new angle of percieving nad accepting life.Its not our abilities that determine who we are,its our choices.And how do we make our choices?Now,that’s a very interesting question..let’s explore.

The common features of the boy in the second case and the hotel official in the first case are primarily two,viz,innocence and attraction to appeal.Their choices clearly reveals their parameters of decision-making–which was appeal and social pressure.Their level of execution may vary but ultimately both of them have preferred to go by the appearance and response rather than the facts and genuinity.Who is to be blamed,no one as i see it!

Creating an appealing image has become more important in contemporary society than is the reality or truth behind that image.The Domino’s Pizza is more famous than Dabur’s Chawanprash.Pompous Idol worship is well established over Silent Meditation.Shimmering silk dresses are in demand compared to the elegant handicrafts.While ‘Boy-meets-girl-fights-dad’ love stories and other mediocre melodramas keep the cash registers ringing real-life potrayals about social issues,village women’s struggle get a whip at the box office.Survival of the fittest,you may say…Survival of the convincing,i say.

There is a difference.To convince someone,you may not necesarrily be genuine or the best.When the person at the other end is mediocre,you enshrine that,you can get your job done.Else,if you are powerful,force your ideology on the other person in a very smart way,and make it a Win-Win situation.If you look into the core of all the above happenings and their eventualities,this is what forms the crux.What a state we are in.

Now arises the question,what to do?I know it…but i wont say it.Because according to me,the world has just two types of people…the dependent and the independent.While i am not concerned about the dependent,the independent don’t need anyone’s concern.Why do all of us,have a brain for?To dream??
